Lower Gratia occupies the downstream portion of land around the Nosco river. There are isolated desert outposts around oases and mining camps in the hills, but most of the population lives in on the fertile banks of the Nosco. Yearly floods make the soil rich here, and the peasants grow lots of wheat, rice, and chickpeas. The surplus feeds several large cities, including the capital [[El-Armarna]], the great delta port of Tarpa, and the holy city of Kadesh.
Lower Gratia is much more unified, conservative, and isolationist than Upper Gratia, although it’s people share the same connection to the past and love of monumental architecture. Lower Gratia is ruled by a God-King, called the Tsion. He maintains tight control on the people by means of secret police known as the Sons of Tsion. Religion here is similar to that of the Vozpell, but lavish burials are reserved for the powerful. A peasant’s security and happiness in the afterlife is assured by the power of his rulers, just as it is in life.
Lower Gratian society is very isolationist. They tolerate Upper Gratians grudgingly, but foreigners are considered no better than savages and are restricted in movement. Because of this, most of the trade which passes up and down the river is moved by Gratians, and very few foreign traders can be found.
